All of the Double Diamond Spears and S&W Saws are
hand-crafted one piece at a time and not mass produced in a factory.
Because our spears and saws are individually made, we are able to pay more
attention to detail and we are able to insure that you will receive a
high-quality product.
All of the spears are made from cold finish steel
components that are custom cut on a water-jet or flow-jet. Next, they are
precisely welded and hand ground and polished with a painted finish. The
heads are 1/4 inch thick cold finish steel plate. The tines are 1/4 inch
cold finish steel rounds. The barbs are made from 1/4 inch cold finish
steel plate which are welded to the tines and hand-sharpened, ground and
polished. The tines are then welded into a slot that is 1 inch back into
the head of the spear. The shaft is also 1/2 inch solid cold finish steel
rounds and welded into a slot 1 1/2 inches back in the head. the shaft
also carries through the cone that holds the wooden handle 10 inches up into the
handle. The handle is then epoxy glued and pinned with a brass pin.
The rope is fastened into a hole that is end bored and counter bored on the side
for easy replacement if necessary.
The chisels are also made from 5/8 inch thick cold finish
steel, the shafts are solid 5/8 inch cold finish steel round, welded into a slot
1 1/2 inches back into the body of the chisel. The shaft also carries
through the cone 10 inches up into the wooden handle. The handle is then
epoxy glued and pinned with a stainless steel pin.
All handles on the spears and chisels are made from solid
wood that is hand turned on a lathe. The standard wood selections offered
are Oak, Ask, Maple, Cherry, and Mahogany (other select woods are offered at an
additional charge, Curly Tiger Maple, Birds-Eye Maple, Black Walnut, Rose-Wood,
Bacote, Zebra Wood, Bubinga, Etc. at current market rates).
Our ice saws are also custom cut on the water-jet and made
from cold finish steel. These are a true saw and not just a chipper or
ripper like the saws sold in big box stores.
